One
of the newest and most modern bulk carriers definitely is Alexandra
P. The owner of this beauty is Auckland Trading Co registered in
Liberia, which gave the flag for the ship also. The Capesize bulk
carrier was built by Sasebo Heavy Industries Co Ltd, which is new
company engaged with ship-building. The cargo ship has deadweight
of 181,255 metric tons and gross tonnage of 93,385 gross tons. The
overall length of the ship is 292.00 meters and the length between
perpendiculars is 283.00 meters. The moulded breadth of the ship
is 45.00 meters and the depth is 24.70 meters. Really we can imagine
the size of this bulk carrier and know how many cargo she is carrying
only with one voyage. The draft, when Alexandra P is fully loaded
is 16.50 meters. Such large ship is in need of very reliable and
strong engine, which will give enough power for the engine to reach
service speed needed for carrying bulk. Because the required speed
for carrying bulk is not so high, more important for the ship-owner
is to have vessel with low fuel consumption at this speed. The main
engine used from the ship-builder is MAN B&W 6S70MC-C, which
gives power enough for the vessel to sail with 15.4 knots. The fuel
consumption with this speed is about 69.10 tons per day. The speed
is for vessel sailing under ballast and will increase on fully loaded
ship.
The bulk carrier Alexandra P is the first ship built
for the requirements of Japanese Maritime Administration. The size
of the bulk carrier is deferred to restrictions of the Dunkerque
port. The hull shape is designed with energy saving shape, which
reduces the water resistance and increase the power of the main
engine. Together with this the large diameter propeller gives high
power at low revolutions. The 9 cargo holds are specially designed
to be easy for cargo loading and handling in ports. The ship is
deferred to the latest developments of cargo handling and can be
easily loaded and discharged in each port of the world. The environmental
facilities are making the ship safer and eco-friendly. date: 29th December, 2009
