 Baosteel
Evolution is one of the largest newly built bulk carriers. Baosteel
Evolution is property of Baoshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., one of
the largest China steel companies, but Ambitious Line S.A. is operating
with this large ship.
Do you wonder how is looking a new, modern and very
nice large bulk carrier? You may just have a look to the ship Baosteel
Evolution. It is part of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines fleet and has two more
sister-ships – Baosteel Expedition and Baosteel Elevation.
The vessel was finished in the year 2007, and the month was September.
In this hot Autumn month I one very beautiful Autumn day –
3rd, Baosteel Evolution was put on water and with this was opened
new page in the history of bulk carriers. Baosteel sister ships
are not only large, but they are modern and good looking. Baosteel
Evolution has a length of 299.95 meters and a beam of 50 meters.
The draft of the vessel is 17.88 meters. This is not only big but
also a high technology vessel, which will bring a lot of money to
the ship-owner, because the whole deadweight of Baosteel Evolution
is 206,331 metric tons. The two other Baosteel sister ships has
almost the same deadweight and measurements. The Gross tonnage of
Baosteel Evolution is 104,721 metric tons.
The ship is absolutely new, with a lot of innovation
is buck carrying and navigation. We used to see only old ships carrying
bulk, and more of them are in absolutely bad condition. On this
vessel things are different. The coverage of the steel is one innovation
in the paint, which is giving to the steel a protection from corrosion
and increase the life of the paint. Baosteel Evolution is vessel
that will make you wonder to the ship’s technologies. The main
engine is working with better productivity and with lower rates
of consuming heavy fuel.
The navigational equipment is the newest in its class and is making
sailing much easier than ever. Three GPS systems are calculating
the possition of the ship with accuracy of 10 meters, which in open
sea is not needed, but in ports is making the mooring operation
like a game. The ARPA is getting information from GPS, and offers
all extras that you may need to maneuver against other ships. All
this extras for the officers are making their life on sea much easier
and they will pay more attention to details and the risk of collision
will be decreased to minimum.
Baosteel Evolution was built in the shipyard of Sayjuo
by Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. But so big heavy bulk carrier
need at least of 15 knots speed. This in fact is the crossing speed
of Baosteel Evolution. To reach this high speed for bulk carrier,
this ship will need a big power from the main engine, which is Mitsui
MAN B&W 6S70MC-C diesel. The power that this main engine is
giving to the vessel is 18,630 kW x 91 rpm. This is not the whole
power that this vessel needs, so it is equipped with 2 auxillary
diesel generators with 3,000 kW power each. Baosteel Evolution is
one real evolution into shipbuilding and bulk carrying. This vessel
will make a lot of people that like ships, just to wonder how beautiful
can look one bulk carrier.
