The
company Bergesen ASA is one of the best known companies in bulk
carrying. The ships of the company are among the largest of the
world shipping. The one, we will present you today is exactly part
of this fleet. The ship is Berge Bonde. This is one of the newest
innovations and best built bulk carriers of Asian Shipbuilding.
The vessel was completed in 2005 by Imabari Shipbuilding in one
of the best quality yards – Saijo Shipyard. Berge Bonde is
one 205,000 DWT ore carriers, registered in Panama and sailing under
the flag of Bergesen ASA. The ship is really amazing in size with
its overall length of 299.94 meters, while the length between perpendiculars
is 291.40 meters. The beam of the vessel is 50.00 meters and the
depth is 24.50 meters. While the ship is fully loaded she can reach
her maximum draft of 18.10 meters. The
deadweight of Berge Bonde is 206,312 metric tons, while the gross
tonnage is 104,727 gross tons. With these principal particulars,
the ore carrier has cargo capacity for 220,021.91 cubic meters.
This large and modern cargo ship is in need of modern and very high
quality engine. The builders from Imabari, decided to install the
main engine of Berge Bonde MAN B&W 6S70MC-C, improved by Kawasaki.
This is one really strong and good model of diesel engine, which
is quite reliable for this ship. The main engine can produce power
of 18,630 kW at 91 rpm. This is enough for this giant bulk carrier
to realize maximum speed of 16.2 knots. This is high speed, but
the ship is not using this value of its speed curve. The cruising
of operating speed of Berge Bonde is 15.1 knots. This is the speed
with gives highest productivity of the vessel. What I mean, is that
which this speed the vessel can pass the maximum distance with
1 metric ton of heavy fuel oil.
This
was only the rude information about this ship. It is quite interesting
to meet one giant of the seas sailing around the oceans. But the
main purpose of the vessel Berge Bonde is to carry cargo from one
point to another. The builders from Imabari designed the vessel
to carry heavy cargoes in holds 1, 2, 5, 7 and 9. The ship can be
discharged or loaded from two different and separate points. This
increase the speed of loading and discharging and reduce the time
for staying in port. The total number of cargo holds of the vessel
is 9, while the odd numbers of cargo holds are smaller created for
bringing heavy cargo. The another even cargo holds are larger for
light cargoes. date: 16th June, 2009
