     Bow Ophelia

Bow Ophelia  Ahrenkiel is company with history in ship operating, and that is the main reason to present to you one more ship of this ship-owner. This time we will introduce to you the chemical tanker Bow Ophelia. The vessel was built in the year 2006 in the Usuki Shipyard Co. Ltd. in Japan. The vessel is part of the series of 3 sister-ships built in 2 years into the ship-yard. The contract with the ship-yard was very profitable for the company and that is why, they decided to reniew the fleet with newer and better chemical tankers from new generation. The first three ships were Bow Ophelia, Bow Orania and Bow Octavia. These two vessels are some of the most interesting innovative and modern vessel sailing in the oceans of the world.

Bow Ophelia is chemical tanker with deadweight of 19,993 metric tons. The vessel has a length of 145.53 meters and a breadth of 23.73 meters. This is making the vessel through the largest chemical tankers and with its innovations it is very useful and profitable for the ship-owner Ahrenkiel. The gross tonnage of Bow Ophelia is 11,561 metric tons and the net tonnage is 6,052 metric tons. The draught of the vessel is 9.67 meters and while fully loaded the draft can reach 8.39 meters. The vessel is very interesting in cargo point of view. The construction of the tank is a little bit more modern than the other chemical tankers, with new coverage, which is easier for tank cleaning. The cargo tanks are 20, covered with stainless steel and deck chemical tankerwith separate loading pipe system. This means that the vessel can carry 20 different types of cargo, without any prompt that these cargos will be mixed. That is very important for such type of vessels, because even a small mixture of some cargoes may lead to explosion and to destroy the whole ship, and sometime even much more. But this vessel is secured from such mixture on the maximum allowed level. The ship is designed with double hull, which includes double bottom and double sides. Also the lists, which are separating each tank are more than 2, which meant that there are 2 separate free spaces between each two tanks, in case of leakages from two close tanks, not to have any mixture. That is why the vessel can carry the most dangerous cargos, and very explosive cargoes.

The vessel is nothing if a good engine is missing. That is why this ship has a main engine from new generation. The engine is MAN B&W 6S42MC with a full power of 6,150 kW at 136 rpm. With this engine the vessel can reach the maximum speed of 14.9 knots, but the cruising one is 13.9 knots. This speed can be reached by the vessel, while sailing under ballast, but with cargo the things are going different. The auxiliary diesel generators are three, from Yanmar 6N18AL-SV with a power of 500 kW each at 900 rpm. The ship is also equipped with bow thruster for easier maneuvering in the ports. The power of the bow thruster is 616 kW. In short words this is the vessel Bow Ophelia, chemical tanker of Ahrenkiel fleet.
