CMA
CGM Medea is one Post_Panamax container ship, with capacity of 9,415
TEUs. The ship was built in the year 2006, by the ship-yard of Hyundai
Heavy Industries. The vessel has a length of 350 meters and a beam
of 43 meters. The maximum draught is about 14.5 meters and the deadweight
of the ship is 113,909 metric tons. The gross tonnage of CMA CGM
Medea is 107,711 metric tons and the net tonnage is 50,109 metric
tons. These large measurements are making the ship one of the largest
built ever, and this is interesting for us, because we like large
engineer buildings. CMA CGM Medea is operated by the ship-owner
CMA CGM and China Shipping. The vessel has 3 sister ships, with
names CMA CGM Rigoletto, CMA CGM Norma and CMA CGM Fidelio.
CMA
CGM Medea is very high-qualited and very good looking ship, which
is through the newest and most reliable ships of the world. The
ship has a main engine Man B&W 12K98MC. The ship has 2 bow thrusters,
with power of 2500 kW each, which is making the vessel maneuverable
and easy for mooring. Such
vessel needs also a high speed and very good propeller system. The
vessel CMA CGM Medea can reach a maximum speed of 25.4 knots, and
the cruising and economy one is 23.6 knots. The hull is designed
with new more improved shape and better coverage. The new silicone
type paint is reducing the resistance and increases the power of
the engine and propulsion system. The ship was registered in the
Port aus Francais, France and certified by Gemanishe Lloyd and IMO.
The ship filled and the requirements and the design and safety is
much higher. Some the innovations are decreasing rolling and increase
the stability of the ship and the cargo. That is good improved to
such kind of ship, because here is very hard to stowe and strength
of the cargo.
The
innovations into the ship are many into the engine room and the
bridge. The new system in the engine decreases the fuel consumption
with 5 % and the CO2 emissions with 15%. Also the cargo stowage
system is well improved to decrease the work of the officers in
calculating stowing factors and positioning of the cargo on board.
That is making the chief officer more devolted to his work on the
bridge and other work over the cargo. The ship is very interesting
in outlooking and propulsion system.
