And
when we are talking about new super-bulkers (this phrase
will become very useful, after fast developing of bulk carriers)
we should not pass without paying attention to the vessel Cape Unity,
which is also one large bulk carrier, with deadweight of 181,180
metric tons and gross tonnage of 90,092 metric tons. The large ship,
with such measurements is always very interesting for watching and
the cargo capacity for Cape Unity can be calculated to 199,724 cubic
meters. The length of the ship Cape Unity is 288.93 meters and the
beam of the ship is 45 meters. The draft of the ship is 18.17 meters.
The ship is designed to carry ore, coal and all other bulk cargoes
except grain. The vessel has a very interesting structure of the
cargo holds, and this is the main feature of this ship. The cargo
holds have difference in length and in this way difference in capacity.
The cargo can be easily stowed and pretty easy discharged and loaded
from the shore. The loading procedures are with more than 30% faster
and the ship will almost dont need to stay at port and to
lose time for loading. This will increase the income from the ship-owner
and together with this fact, will also decrease the expenses for
harbor taxes. This is very nice for the ship-owner. The vessel was
built in the ship-yard of Saijo Shipyard, by the ship-building company
Imabari Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. This vessel is very high qualited
and very good for sailing, according to the producers deom the company.
The vessel has a very good main engine, which is MITSUI MAN-B&W
6S70MC-C diesel with a full power of 18,360 kW at 91 rpm. This is
fast and very strong engine, which can give to the ship enough power
for sailing with the maximum speed of 15.35 knots. The economy speed
of the vessel Cape Unity is 13.98 knots (almost 14 knots). This
is very good result for one bulk carrier and the expenses for one
dey are decreased with more than 10%. That is very profitable and
very good ship for its owner. The vessel has 9 cargo holds, made
with single hull construction and double bottom. Cargo loading and
unloading is possible in two different ports under the condition
of the homogenous cargo with the same 45% bunker. The vessel is
innovative with systems for reducing consumption of energy, which
is called hybrid fin. This system is installed in the
fore edge of the rudder just after the propeller, and the improvement
of Imabari made this very useful for the ship. Also on the bridge
the all new technologies, which are now required by IMO, are installed
for easier sailing and to help the officers. This ship is also very
ecological and the all requirements of SOLAS are filled at the maximum
allowed way. date: 30th May, 2008
