     Cosco Yantian

Cosco Yantian  One of the largest container ships these days definitely is the Cosco Yantian, property of the Cosco Shipping. The vessel is large and has a length of 350 meters, and width of 43 meters. The draft of the Cosco Yantian is 27.30 meters and with these measurements the vessel has own deadweight of 107,000 metric tons, which is pretty good and make this vessel through the largest from this category. The gross tonnage of Cosco Yantian is 109,149 metric tons and the net tonnage is 52,743 metric tons. The TEU capacity of the ship is 9,469 containers, too much behind the largest fourt container ships, but Cosco Yantian is definitely very interesting and large engineer outfit. The vessel is from type Post-Panamax and this means that this vessel is the largest allowed sized ship, which can pass through Panama channel. That is very important for profitability of the ship, and this is important mostly for the company, operating with the vessel.
The vessel is making now regular routes between Asia and Europe, and visits one of the largest ports of the world – Rotterdam and Shanghai. The ship is pretty new, built in 2006, with many innovations and very good design. Cosco Yantian is sailing under the flag of Pireaus, Greece and IMO number 9305594. Cosco Yantian BowThe ship was built by high rated ship-yard of Hyundai Heavy Industries, and the main engine is coming from the new generation. The main engine of Cosco Yantian is Mitsubishi, with full power of 51,965 hp at 95 rpm. The engine gives enough power to the ship to sail with more than 25 knots, cruising speed while fully loaded. The maximum speed of the ship is 27 knots, but economy one if 25.4 knots. That is pretty good for a ship, because simple calculations will tell you that increasing of speed will decrease expenses for the ship-owner and will increase the incomes for him too. And this is the most important of this business. The developments in the engine control room are very much, and the engine room can be controlled very easily from distance, which is important for the engineers of this vessel. Almost all of the sensors are very sensitive and inform about any problem just in time. The system for information is very reliable, almost as much as the engineer officers. That is making the engineer watch easier, and reliable engineers are not having any problems with the system. Also the bridge is improved and good wings are giving possibility to watch the surrounding atmosphere of 360 degrees.
