Eleonora Maersk, and now we will claim the other ship Edith Mearsk.
This container vessel is one of the largest four container ships
of the world. The capacity of the ship is 11 thousand containers,
according to calculations of Maersk Group. But Maersk restrictions
in loading and container stowage are even stronger the IMo ones.
That is why according to IMO Edith Maersk (and her sisterships)
can carry 13,500 TEUs and that is fantastic. The container ship
Edith Maersk is 397 meters long and has width of 56 meters. The
depth of the ship is 30 meters and the full deadweight is 156,907
meters. And this is really large ship, because I believe that this
vessel is amazing if you see it with your eyes.
And
so large ship, like Edith Maersk needs a power to realize enough
speed, which is required for container ships. And Maersk Line required
it too. That is why Edith Maersk has specially designed Wartsila
diesel engine with full power of 80,000 kW. But this is not enough
according to Maersk specialists, and together with waste heat recovery
system installed on board the main engine increases the power to
more than 90,000 kW. With this engine, the container ship Edith
Maersk can reach the speed of 26 knots,
and the cruising one is 25.2 knots. And if you wonder, where this
vessel is built, the answer is very simple, because not many ship-yards
will take themselves to build such large ship. But Odense Steel
Shipyard Ltd is one of the most qualited and developed yards in
the world. In the year 2007 and month of March, the vessel Edith
Maersk was put on water. And this was the beginning of the newest
story of Maersk Line and container shipping.
All
the systems on board of Edith Maersk are developed. The safety and
environmental standards were increased by Maersk Line and this made
the ship more safety and increased the stability. The environmentally-safe
silicone paint is used for upper layer of the vessel bellow the
waterline, which reduces the water resistance and from there also
the fuel consumption of the ship. And when we are talking about
fuel consumption, this reduce is about 1,200 tons of heavy fuel
oil per year. And that is good not only for the ship-owner, but
also for the nature.And together with all these words we will add
some unbelievable information, that the ship is operated by only
