The
container ship Estelle Maersk is one of the largest ships of the
world. We all know her sisters – Emma Maersk and Eleonora
Maersk, who are attracting us with size, engine and capacity of
the cargo, which can be transported. The capacity of Estelle Maersk
is 11,000 TEU calculated by company, and more than 14,500 TEU according
to IMO regulations. The ship is property of Maersk Group and operated
by the daughter company A.P. Moller. The capacity of the ship is
divided into 22 rows wide. This is really big number of containers
and cargo operations can be done pretty fast because of the systems
for stowing on board. The container ship Estelle Maersk has length
of 397.00 meters and beam of 56.00 meters. The depth of the ship
is 30.00 meters and when is fully loaded the draft reaches 15.50
meters. The deadweight of Estelle Maersk is 156,907 metric tons
and the gross tonnage is 170,900 gross tons. The ship is quite large
and offering good service for transportation of containers. But
in this sector of maritime transport in great need is high power,
because we all know that Maersk ships are following strictly the
schedule with not less than an hour delay. For this reason the ship-builders
constructed the ship Estelle
Maersk with bow shape to reduce water resistance and also with strong
engine to provide high power. The main engine is Wartsila 14RT with
total power of 80,000 kW. This power, the bow shape and new water
resistant paint give the ability for the ship to realize cruising
speed of 25.3 knots. Of course this is the economy speed, used while
ocean voyages, but the maximum speed, allowed by constructors is
about 27.3 knots. This is really high speed for such large ship.
The
vessels from the series produced for Maersk Line are also some of
the most environmental and most efficient ships of the world. The
optimized shape, optimized materials and also strong engines are
giving for the ship high speed, low fuel consumption, long life
and reliability, which is standard typical for the Dutch ship-owner.
Just for example, the same capacity cargo ship from another company
has 1,200 tons more fuel consumption for year, about 3.0 knots lower
speed and 2-3 years shorter life. The cargo ship Estelle Maersk
was built in Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd, which is one offering highest
quality for shipbuilding in the world, creating ships only for Maersk
Line. The container ship Estelle Maersk was ordered in 2004 and
finished in 2006. date: 29th July, 2009
