The containers are handled on board on 22 rows wide. It is interesting to mention that the container ship is operated by only 13 crew members – 1 ordinary seaman, 3 able seamen, 1 oiler, 3 engine officers, 3 navigation officers, chief officer and the Master. The number of the crew is quite low, mostly because of the modern machinery, computerized monitoring and quality machinery. The economy speed is used for the ship, when underway using engines with cargo on board. With this speed the ship is having lowest possible fuel consumption, while loaded. The ship-builders of Evelyn Maersk succeeded to decrease water resistance under the waterline, and with this innovation, they reduced the fuel consumption with more than 1,200 tons per year. This is important for the ship-owner, because with such innovation the expenses for the ship are reducing.
