Definitely
one of the most discussed pojects last months was creating of the
largest ore carrier of the world. The grand project was taken from
the large and well known ship-builder Imabari Shipbuilding Co.,
Ltd. The ship will be called IS Brastar and will have the deadweight
of 335,000 metric tons. This project is really amazing in size and
specifications. The ship will have overal length of 339.90 meters
and length between perpendiculars of 330.00 meters. The ships from
this class are rare last years, because of the economy crisis, but
Imabari will built one of the largest ship last years. The ship
IS Brastar will have beam of 60.00 meters, depth of 28.80 meters
and when the ship is fully loaded has draft of 21.65 meters. The
has gross tonage of 167,500 gross tons and this large ship will
operate between
Brazil and Asia, for increasing demand of iron ore from Brazil.
this large ship will be equipped with strong engine MAN B&W
7S80MC-C (Mk VIII), which will have power of 29,260 kW at 78 rpm.
And this power and the shape of the ore carrier will give the oppurtunity
of the vessel to reach speed of about 15.15 knots.
In the years of economy crisis building of such vessel
is normal. The ship is new with modern technologies and innovative
design. The fuel consumption will be reduced by new Mark VIII engine,
which will be more productive and low consumptional. The CO2 emissions
of the large ore carrier are also on the minimum level, which is
covering the IMO and MARPOL requirements. IS Brastar will have five
cargo holds, which will have nine cargo catches. This
will decrease the time for loading and dischariging and ship will
be able to spend more time traveling. Also preventing polution in
the engine will be supported by double hull construction of all
oil tanks and some innovation in the ship's funnels, which will
decrease air polution of the vessel. Actually the builders had decided
to make one modern and environmental ship.
IS Brastar will be finished in the year 2014, but the project already
strated. Maybebefore this year some other large ships will be built,
but actually designing and constructing of so large bulk carrier
is hard job even for shipbuilder like Imabari. date: 6th April, 2009
