One
of VLLC of the world, definitely should be claimed into our presentation
of the interesting and not so interesting ships. Idemitsu Maru is
very large cruise carrier with deadweight of 300,100 metric tons.
The gross tonnage that this vessel can carry is 160,300 metric tons.
This large oil tanker was built in November 2007 and with her innovations
is one of the newest and most beautiful engineer outfits. The length
of Idemitsu Maru 333 meters and the beam is 60 meters. The draught
of the crude carrier is 29 meters and draft, while this ship is
fully loaded is 19.2 meters. So large measurements and so large
steel plates is very hard to stay over the water, and even a small
mistake in engineers calculations may cause a low safety of this
vessel. So the engineers had predicted a large free board for bigger
safety and higher stability level. The innovations on board of new
generation VLCCs are very much. The arrangement of the cargo tanks
is optimized together with the ballast tanks and other compartments,
resulting in remarkably low gross tonnage. So the vessel is made
to be profitable for the ship-owner Idemitsu Tanker Co. Ltd. The
tanker was built in Kure Shipyard by the famous Japan company for
ship-building IHI Marine United Inc. So
large vessel like Idemitsu Maru, needs a very strong and high effective
engine. So the main engine installed on this crude carrier is a
common rail electronically controlled DU-Sulzer 7RT-flex 84T-D diesel
engine with a whole power of 27,160 kW at 74 rpm. This power is
pretty enough tfor the vessel to reach an economy speed of 15.65
knots, while the maximum one is about 16.35 knots, which is absolutely
enough for such kind of vessel. The fuel consumption of the main
engine is reduced with nearly 5%. But only the main engine is not
giving enough power for the whole loading and discharging process
or for maneuverability, so the vessel has 3 auxiliary diesel generators,
which are used with that purpose. These generators are started in
the ports, when the main engine is stopped, and also started together
with the main engine, while the ship is maneuvering. Idemitsu Maru
has all necessary safety and navigation. The GPS, ARPA and AIS are
working together with the electronic charts and make a job of the
officer very easy. The bridge has more than 310 degrees view, which
allows to the offices to watch the surrounding situation by their
eyes, not only with radar. Also the cargo system is allowed to be
operated from Cargo Control Room. Where the officer may watch operations
are control them away. The all number of crew on board is 18 persons
together with ratings. date: 30th May, 2008
