One
of the greatest oil tankers of Ernst Jacob Group is the one called
Kim Jacobs. The ship has a deadweight of 159,211 metric, which
classify this vessel into the large crude carrier (LCC). The oil
tanker Kim Jacobs has a length of 274 meters and a beam of 48
meters. The vessel has a draft of 23.20 meters. With these measurements
that vessel has gross tonnage of 81,265 metric tons and net tonnage
of 50,735 metric tons.
The vessel was built in the ship-yard of Daewoo Heavy
Industries in Korea, which is not talking very good about this
company I think. I suppose the some intelligent and well known
ship-owner should pay more attention to ship-builders, mostly
because the vessel will be operated by him. Well Daewoo is not
the worst ship-yard in the world, but not the best too. And we
all know this. Kim Jacob was put on water is the late year 1998
and the month was June. The ship is sailing under the flag of
Liberia, but it was registered by German Lloyd. That is very important
for this ship, because the requirements of Liberian Maritime Administration
are too low, in comparison with German Lloyds.
Kim
Jacob has 12 cargo tanks and 2 slop tanks, and with all these
cargo space the ship has capacity of 166,684 cubic meters at 98%
loaded. The slop tank capacity is about 3,196 cubic meters. This
is very important mostly in tank cleaning, but some ships are
not using slop tanks at all. The ship is with well equipped cargo
system, and the cargo pumps ate 3 each with capacity of 3,500
cubic meters per hour. The cargo pumps are SHINKO, and the type
is centrifugal.
The vessel Kim Jacob can reach speed of 16 knots.
This is possible because of the strong main engine, which is MAN
B&W 6S 70 MC MK 6, with whole power of 16,860 kW. The auxiliary
diesel generators and 3 numbers MAN B&W 6L 23/30H with power
of 850 kW each. I told that ship-yard of the vessel is not so
high qualited, but engine is very good, and I suppose that this
is the new generation diesel generator, which is in use on many
ships built these years. The propeller of Kim Jacob is also very
good, with fixed pitch, made from high quality materials M-Ni-Br-Al.
This is why this vessel is so interesting in engine point of view.
