The
new and most discussed ship last days was the new building of Daewoo
Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering - MSC Danit. The ship is the
largest container ship built ever. The vessel MSC Danit has capacity
for 14,000 TEUs with deadweight of 165,517 metric tons. The ships
from the class of MSC Danit are really the largest and most interesting
container ships of the world, built ever. The ship has overall length
of 365.50 meters and moulded beam of 51.20 meters. The ship is leading
in the competition of MSC fleet with Maersk fleet, and got the first
place, at least for now. The ship MSC Danit has draft of 16.00 meters
at
maximum cargo weight, which is giving a gross tonnage of the ship
of 153,092 gross tons. The ship was finished at the beginning of
March and on 26th of March, 2009 was christened by the vice-president
of Daewoo ship-yard, president of MSC Israel - Edni Simkin and his
daughter Danit Simkin, who gave the name of the vessel. The ship
is really innovation in ship-building with improved stability and
better engine, for increasing power and speed of the ship. The main
engine of the ship MSC Danit is MAN B&W 12K98MC-C with output
power of 72,240 kW. the speed is enough for the ship to reach maximum
speed of 25.0 knots, while th cruising one is 24.1 knots.
The
ship MSC Danit is property of Mediterranean Shipping Company, registered
under the flag of Panama with IMO number 9404649. The ship is really
innovated with superstructure in the midships
and engine room in the aft. The ship is really beautiful and theory
is showing that this positioning of the superstructure and funnel
is giving high stability and optimal trim with maximum loading of
the ship. This distribution of the features of the ship are giving
better stbility and cargo handling on the deck even in heavy sea.
The ship MSC Danit has improved shape for higher speed in following
the timetable of the chateurs. Really the vessel is from the new
generation with some classes larger and better than all other container
ships built ever. date: 28th April, 2009
