NYK
Venus is one of the largest ships of NYK Lines, with capacity for
8,600 containers (TEU). The vessel is pretty large and the measurements,
which she has are amazing for container vessel from middle class.
Of course if you compare this vessel with Emma Maersk or some other
vessel from highest class, this will not be something interesting.
But in spite of this NYK Venus is large and has a good capacity
and the builder designed this ship to be profitable and very useful
for the ship-owner. The length of NYK Venus is 338 meters and the
width 46 meters. The ship has gross tonnage 97,825 gross tons. And
so large vessel will need of large engine, which should have enough
power to move this ship with high speed of at least 24 knots, because
one container vessel needs of higher speed. The main engine of NYK
Venus is MAN B&W 12K98ME, which has approximately 87,000 horsepower.
The propulsion system is very strong and improved, to give to the
ship a higher speed and the maximum speed of the ship is about 25.2
knots, while the cruising speed is about 24.5 knots. The
vessel NYK Venus was built in 2007 by Hyundai Heavy industries.
The ship is well designed and built from high technology. NYK Venus
has also three more sister-ships NYK Vega, NYK Vesta and NYK Virgo,
which are among the largest container of the world. We already wrote
about the ship NYK Vega, and you know much about her. Now is the
day of NYK Venus. NYK Venus is designed with newest and most modern
structures. The ship has a hull design with special shape and contruction
to prevent fuel-oil leakages. Also the electronicaly controlled
engine has a lot of indicators to check for proper and good work
of the systems. The innovations into the fuel system are many, and
all of them are working for decreasing of fuel consumption, CO2
emissions and polution. The ship is sailing on regular routes between
the Eastern Asia and Western Europe. Also sometimes visits USA and
Canada. NYK Venus is one of the most beautiful container ships built
ever. That is why today we paid attention to this ship. Because
this is one really interesting container vessel is constructional
point of view. date: 8th September, 2008
