The
car and vehicle carrier Positive Leader is one of the newest and
most modern vessels of Oceanic Trader S.A. The cargo ships from
this type are carrying thousands of cars with one voyage, making
the trade between Asia and Europe faster. The car carrier Positive
Leader was built in Shimonoseki Shipyard and Machinery Works in
2006 by the one of the most known ship-builders - Mitsubishi Heavy
Industries, Ltd. This is high prove for the words that this ship
is among the most modern and most beautiful car carriers of the
world. The ship has overall length of 180.00 meters, while the length
between perpendiculars is 171.70 meters. The beam of the car carrier
is 30.00 meters, while the depth is 30.94 meters. This should not
be strange because of the high freeboard of such vessels. The draft
of Positive Leader is 8.20 meters, when the ship is fully loaded.
The cargo vessel has deadweight of 10,862 metric tons, while the
gross tonnage is 43,810 gross tons. The car carrier Positive Leader
has two more sisterships built earlier in the same ship-yard. The
ship was built according to highest standards according to all IMO
requirements and according to ship-owner requirements for profitability.
The Positive Leader has capacity to carry 3,930 passenger cars,
including some heavy vehicles. The cargo cars can be rolled on and
off from the two shore ramps situated on the mid starboard. It is
quite important the ship to be arranged for quick cargo loading
and discharging, because the time consumed
for cargo loading and handling is paid by no-one, which means that
the interest of ship-owner and operator is the cargo loading to
be done with maximum speed. The ship has ten cargo decks with two
liftable driven by hydraulic-drive jigger cylinders. The liftable
cargo decks can handle all kind of vehicles, which can be loaded
to this car carrier.
It
is quite important such vessel to be reliable and very modern to
do the job, accurately and fast. The cargo system is strong and
can handle this ship pretty accurately. The main engine should be
also high qualitied and realiable. The main engine of Positive Leader
is Mitsubishi-UE with total power of 11,560 kW at 127 rpm. This
allows for the ship to realize maximum speed of 21.6 knots, while
the cruising speed is 19.9 knots. This is high speed, but one Ro-Ro
