RTM
Wakmatha is the suitable bulk carrier for navigation through Great
Barrier Reef, which is the making the ship very important for the
ship-owner of Rio Tinto Shipping Limited. The bulk carrier has deadweight
of 90,338 metric tons and gross tonnage of 53,988 gross tons. The
overall length of the vessel RTM Wakmatha is 235.67 meters, while
the length between perpendiculars is 226.00 meters. The beam of
the vessel is 43.00 meters and depth is 19.50 meters. When the bulk
carrier RTM Wakmatha is fully loaded the draft reaches 12.80 meters.
The measurements of the ship are showing us the what this monster
looks like. But the problem of how this vessel can be moved easiest
for maneuvering is solved by the main engine of HITACHI-MAN B&W
6S60MC-C (Mark7). This is latest innovation of B&W engines,
developed by Hitachi, to give high power and large maneuverability.
The main engine is giving to the vessel power of 13,500 kW x 105rpm,
which is enough for the ship t reach maximum speed of 15.4 knots.
The cruising speed is a little bit lower to about 15.0 knots. This
beautiful and useful ship RTM Wakmatha was created by Namura Shipbuilding
into the Imabari Shipyard in 2007. The shipbuilders created this
vessel to sailing in hard for maneuvering stops of the ocean, which
was important feature given from the ship-owner when ship was ordered.
The maneuverability was increased by high lift rudder. Because of
sailing in areas where the navigation warnings and dangers are much
two echo sounders are installed in the fore and aft, to give exact
depth under the keel. The propeller is also created to change easily
the speed and course with high efficient in open-sea. But of course
the main purpose of the ship is not to carry the engine from one
part of the world to another, but to carry cargo. So the builders
of this ship made some modern innovations in cargo handling system
and cargo hold to be more productive in loading and discharging.
The ship has 5 cargo holds, which can be covered with 5 hatch covers.
The section in midships is specially desgined with double sided
skin construction for easier cargo operations in Australian ports.
Really this ship was designed with many interesting features and
innovations according to latest IMO requirements. date: 29th June, 2009
