Leo is new chemical tanker built in 2008 year into the ship-yard
of Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair, Inc. under hull number 0027.
The ships like this one are from lower class of chemical tankers.
Sunny Leo is pretty small ship with deadweight of 6,717.55 metric
tons. In spite of this fact, the chemical tanker is designed to
carry all kind of chemicals, even the most dangerous class. The
gross tonnage of Sunny Leo is 4,550 gross tons. The ship looks very
small, and compared with the giants of sailing this is only the
small sailing boat, but the price of the cargo and the voyages are
as important as the other ships. The overall length of Sunny Leo
is 109.61 meters and the length between perpendiculars is 103.00
meters. The beam of the chemical tanker is 17.20 meters, depth is
8.90 meters and the draft is 6.65 meters. These measurements are
giving to the ship capacity for 22 compartments for cargo. As already
mentioned in many articles the all 22 tanks are separated with stainless
steel and the manifolds allow to the loaded each tank separately.
There is no other ship like chemical tanker, because here the lowest
mistake can cause the existing of the whole earth. That is why the
restrictions to such kind of vessels to be much higher than all
other ships. Sunny  Leo
is designed and created with the newest and best practices. The
ship has low water resistance shape and paint, which is increasing
the power of the vessel. Also Sunny Leo has main engine Hitachi
Zosen-MAN B&W 5L35MC Mark VI, which is new, modern and innovative
engine designed from the German company MAN to be high efficient
and low pollutant. The CO2 emissions in this main engine are decreased
to the minimum level in comparison with older engines. The power
of the ship is 3,250 kW x 210rpm, which is sign for increasing ship’s
speed. This is real, because the maximum speed of the Sunny Leo
is 15.35 knots, while the cruising one is 14.67 knots. The ship
is really interesting and new, designed with new technology to be
safety and environmental.
The ship was designed and completed by the ship-builder
Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair, Inc. and is operated from the
Solar Shipping and Trading S.A. The chemical tanker Sunny Leo is
registered under Liberian flag, which is convenient registration
for many chemical tankers and ships at all, because of lower restrictions,
taxes and requirements. This is very important for the ship-owner
of one chemical tanker, because on these kind of ships, each detail
is looked under magnifier. But Sunny Leo is really modern and good
ship. The cargo system is with new generation to increase the speed
of loading and discharging, but also do everything more safety.
The risks of pollution are decreased with 10% according to ship-builders,
with some innovations in loading system and deck shape.
