TI
Oceania is definitely one of the four largest vessels of the world
fleet. The ULCC (Ultra Large Crude Carrier) was built in the year
of 2002 in the Daewoo ship-yard is South Korea, by the shipping
company Hellespont. TI Oceania is one of the four sister-ships,
which are largest double-hulled supertankers, and just a month ago
I wrote one issue about one of them. The four vessel are TI Europe,
TI Asia, TI Oceania and TI Africa. Of course all of that vessels
has their own characteristics and their own features. The owner
of four sister ships is one of the largest companies of the world
tanker fleet Euronav.
TI
Oceania is ship which is built to be a lot of productive and to
has a high speed even fully loaded. The oil tanker has a crossing
speed of 17.1 knots, while fully loaded and 18.1 knots in voyages
under ballast. This is increasing the profitability of this tanker.
This is very important for the ship-owner because TI Oceania can
carry 4.2 millions of barrels just in one voyage, and so much fuel
can feed up the heavy economy of one small country for a few months.
The whole project for building this tanker is almost new. The plating
is innovated with a large number of steel scantlings, which is decreasing
the weight of the ship. But that dont happen over the safety
of the ship. When building so large vessel you should pay attention
not only for profitability but also for the ecology. Is there is
a spillage of such large tanker a sea life in one sea may die at
all, and the result for the human will be terrible. That is why
this ship is secured as much as possible. The
ship is designed by the old technology of double-hull. That is not
innovation on it, but is very useful, in spite of large costs for
building and decreasing of tank spaces. In the spaces between the
two hulls are situated ballast tanks. The coverage of the ballast
tanks is new, which is just testable, but for the years of using
this ship is easy to be seen that it extends the life of the coatings
inside. the color of the ship is white, to reflect the sun light,
and the increase of the temperature into the halls
to be minimum. The inertgas system is pretty good and has the opportunity
to fill all the tanks of the ship TI Oceania, but many times that
is not enough because this vessel is sailing almost everywhere in
the world oceans and is passing not only once the Equator. So keeping
low temperatures will decreasing the emissions of hydrocarbon, which
will protect the ship from explosions.
As I said TI Oceania is one of the largest oil tankers
in the world. So this ship has a gross tonnage of 234,006 metroc
tons, net tonnage 162,477 metric tons. The whole deadweight of TI
Oceania is 441,585 metric tons. So large vessel has a large measurements.
The length of motor vessel TI Oceania is 380 meters, the breadth
is 68 meters and the depth is 34 meters. Can you imagine how big
is that ship. The draught of TI Oceania is 24.5 meters. This ship
is definitely one of the largest built ever, and this is why I decided
to introduce TI Oceania as one of the greatest oil tankers of the
world.
