Motor
vessel Tamerlane is one of the car carriers sailing around the oceans.
The ship is pretty new, designed with the new technology of Mark
IV, which was the highest technology for the year of building of
this beautiful vessel. Actually the ship was built in the year 2000
into the famous and well known ship-yard of Daewoo Heavy Industries
Ltd. in Korea. Tamerlane is ro-ro ship with overall length of 240.60
meters, beam of 32.26 meters and maximum draft of 11.75 meters.
The car carrier has depth of 32.45 meters and air draft of 46.00
meters. Tamerlane is not so large car carrier with deadweight of
38,486 metric tons, gross tonnage of 67,140 gross tons and net tonnage
of 24.275 metric tons. The ro-ro ships are typically not sailing
under regular route, which is very important and showing the main
features of these ships. The volume capacity of Tamerlane is 125,620
cubic meters. The ship is property of one of the largest companies
operating with such type of vessels – the Norwegian ship-
owner Wallenius Wilhemsen. The ship is in good condition and this
is one of the reasons this vessel to be sailing under Norwegian
flag. This is fact, which is important for Norway economy but only
a couple of companies are not using convenient flag for their vessels.
Tamerlane
is ship, which is looking really nice, even for cargo ship. The
newly improved main engine MAN B&W 8L 70MC (MK5) is giving to
the ship power of 28,480 horse powers, which is enough for the ship
to sail with maximum speed of 23.1 knots, while the operating one
is 22.3 knots. The main engine is designed to decrease CO2 emissions,
which is main purpose of newest changes in world’s politic.
The engine is reversible directly and next to it is attached the
propeller, which is with fixed pitch. The propeller has diameter
of 7.60 meters and has 4 right handled blades. The ship is not only
very environmental, but also profitable for the ship-owner. The
newly improved cargo ramps is making the loading and discharging
pretty fast, which is main
feature of this vessel. The ship has 8 cargo decks, from which 4
are hoistable. The stern ramp, which is main cargo loading ramp,
has height of 8 meters and weight of 12 meters and the ramp capacity
is 320 tons. So increasing of speed of loading will not be restricted
by cargo ramp capacity. The ship is not so large, but has pretty
much space for the cargo, which is giving high productivity of voyages.
The voyages are controlled from the bridge over the bow, which is
main feature of such type of vessels. Tamerlane is equipped with
the most useful navigational equipment according to good sea practices.
