     Urals Star

One of newly built and very modern ships property of the large ship-owner company “Ernst Jacob” is the double hull oil tanker Urals Star. The vessel has a deadweight of 114,847 metric tons, a length of 253.5 meters and a beam of 44 meters. The depth of the oil tanker is 21 meters. The Gross tonnage of Urals Star is 63,700 metric tons and the Net tonnage is 34,900 metric tons. This means that TOC of the oil tanker of Ernst Jacob company is 100,5 t. That value is important for loading and discharging of the vessel because due to this value you may understand what will be draft of the ship in exact loading. The ship may reach a speed of 15.6 knots, but the optimal cruising speed of Urals Star is 14.2 knots, which is absolutely enough for the ship with that measurements and that type of cargo. The main engine of the oil tanker is Wartsila 24.000 BHP with power of 17,650 kW at 94 rpm. The auxiliary engines are three on count STX Man B&W each with 960 kW power. The propeller of Urals Star is Control Pitch, which is very easy for use and very maneuverable with speed. The boilers that the oil tanker is equipped with are two numbers Aalborg-Mision TM OL Oil Fired, each with capacity of 3 tons per hour.

Urals Star is oil tanker operated by HTG-Hamburg Tanker GmbH. The ship-yard that took the ambitious idea to build this vessel is Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. They did their work very good in comparison with many other ships, who had been constructed in the same yard. Urals Star had filled all the necessary requirements of IMO and also is certified by Britain’s Lloyd Register. That is very important for the ship, mostly because the flag that Urals Star is sailing under the Liberian flag. The ship has Ice class 1A FS. The regions where this vessel is sailing are not so often filled with snow and ice, but Urals Star is not sailing on regular routes, so this means that the next port may be somewhere in the north latitudes.

The oil tanker Urals Star has 12 cargo tanks, all double hulled, which is a basic requirement of IMO for tankers built after 2004. The ship’s tanks have capacity of 124,587.4 cubic meters of cargo at 98% loaded. Urals Star has 3 cargo pumps, each SHINKO Centrifugical with discharge capacity of 9,000 cubic meters per hour. This means that the whole vessel can be discharged from three points for nearly 5 hours at full speed, which is a fantastic result for such type of vessel and will decrease the outcomes of the company to minimum. The ship is equipped also with IGS, CTB and COW, which systems are innovated in this type of vessels.
