One of the largest container ships in the world is definitely property of the biggest container ship-owner Maersk Group. The name of the vessel is Emma M?rsk, which when was built was the bigest container vessel in use. Official this vessel can carry nearly 11,000 TEUs, which is not less than 1,400 containers more than any other ship can has on board. But this is information from the company about ship's stability. This means that in normal calulation, the cargo capacity of Emma Maersk is more than 11,000 TEUs and is between 13,500 and 14,500 TUE. The difference come from the method of calculating and companies policy. Maersk is calculating the number of containers with weight of every container of 14 tons, while all companies are just calculating the maximum capacty of all containers of board.
  The ships was built in 2006 in the shipyard of Odense Steel Shipyard in Denmark. Interesting fact about this vessel is that during constructin there was a large fire in the accomodationg and bridge, which cause a lot of damages. But everything was repaired quickly and the ship was finished at time. On 12th August, 2006 the ship was named in the ceremony, and the name was given after Emma Maersk, who was the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller's late wife. The ship started sailing on 8th September, 2006 at 02:00 from Aarhus, to destinations of Gothenburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Algeciras and Singapore, where arrived on 1st October, 2006 at exact time 20:05. In fact these ports are almost all regular routes that Emma Maersk is sailing.
  The vessel has the lenght overall of 397 m, the beam is 56m, and hull depth is 30 m. You can imagine what is the looking of this ship, when it's not sailing. The draft of Emma Maersk is 15.5 m. Gross tonnage is 170,974 bt and net tonnage is 55,396 nt, all with deadweight of 156,907 DWT. Many people thought that so large container ship will not be useful at 100%, but I'm sure that Maersk had calculated the price of this ship and they are using it at even 101%.
  So large container ship will need from large and powerfull engine. Emma Maersk isequiped with 80 MW Wartsila 14RT-Flex96c, which is giving to the ship a power of 109,000 hp. Plus that main engine the ship had 30MW from fine Caterpillar 8M32, which are giving 40,000 hp more power. With all this power Emma Maersk had constructional speed of 25.2 knots, and maximum speed of more than 27.5 knots.
